Is “Ayo” your real name?
Yes. My name is Darryl Ayo Brathwaite.
Wow, that’s cool! What does your name mean?
My name has no more or less significance than that of someone named “Charles,” “Sarah” or “Marvin.”
At first, I thought you were an Asian woman.
No.
I liked you better when I thought you were a girl.
You and me both, pal.
So what is Little Garden about?
Fine food, fresh flowers, fantastic friends, fried fish and fun Fridays.
You’re a man. It is gross and wrong of you to do a comic about lesbians.
Little Garden isn’t about lesbians.
Your stye is strange; what are your influences?
When I started Little Garden, I was really into Julie Doucet, EC Segar and Jim Woodring.
What do you use to do your screentones?
Maxon Comic Tex dry transfer sheets, TP-204. Unlike the normal kind of screentones that are cut out of an adhesive transparent sheet and pressed on, Mazon Comic Tex is applied by burnishing directly onto the surface of the page. No razors, no little bits of acetate and a lot faster.
The banner says the comic updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There’s no new comic, what gives?!
I started this thing with the best of intentions. I am trying my best to get ahead again in this comic so as to resume regular updates. I do try to update the blog when I can’t get a new page up in time. As of this writing though, Little Garden is effectively a weekly strip. Thank you for your patience.
